Trick, Hack and Cheat DeskTime (2026)

Guide ~4 min Updated

DeskTime does not just ask whether you touched the keyboard — it asks which app. That is why the usual tricks fail here.

What DeskTime actually tracks

The desktop agent records which application is in the foreground, which URL is open in the browser, and how long each stays there. It can also take screenshots and log arrival and departure times. Your report is a labelled timeline, not one number.

How the productivity score is built

Every app falls into one of three buckets, defined by your admin. The productivity score is the share of tracked time in the productive bucket, and many companies leave the internal ranking visible to colleagues.

  • Productive: the IDE, the CRM, the design tool.
  • Neutral: mail, chat, file manager — counted, not scored.
  • Unproductive: social media, video, news — drags the score down.

Why a mouse jiggler fails here

A jiggler generates input wherever the cursor happens to be, but the time is still attributed to the foreground window. High activity with a low productivity score is stranger than being away.

Reaction

Mouse jiggler

A jiggler repeats one path in one window; a person moves around and changes context.

What holds up: presence in the right windows

DeskTime needs ordinary work in apps already marked productive: typing, scrolling, occasional switching. Reaction does that while you are away, runs only when the machine is idle, and stops the instant you touch the mouse.

Activity band 65–80%
A band with room for pauses reads as a working day; a flat line does not.

In short

On DeskTime the question is which window the input happened in, so ignoring app classification solves the wrong problem.

Let Reaction hold the number for you

Set your activity band, turn on hidden mode, and Reaction keeps a natural, human-like level while you are away — and hands control back the moment you return.
